Four Bray Parishes TogetherThe nine priests in Bray will reduce to six over the next decade. The diocese plans to group parishes in threes and fours. So Bray will have one parish priest. All six priests will be appointed to the four parish unit (each parish can still have a resident priest.) To prepare for this, all the priests have been meeting monthly since last November. There has just been a first meeting of representatives of each parish pastoral council, with the priests, While people fear lest their parish lose its identity they see that working together will actually increase identity. The process will be gradual. Another meeting of priests and parishioners is planned for June to identify areas for collaboration in the coming year. The mood at this stage is, as one participant put it, 'nervous but happy' Top of page
Financial Support for your ParishThe new family offering envelopes are now available. With this system parishioners contribute on a weekly, monthly or annual basis towards the upkeep of the parish. A growing number of parishioners also use Standing Orders. This is the only source of income for the running of the parish. The first collection at Mass for the priests of the Diocese provides a salary for the priests of the parish plus priests not working in Parishes, sick and retired priests and priests in financially poor parishes. This guarantees that all priests in the Diocese, no matter what parish, receive approximately the same salary. I feel this is a fair and just system. The Share Collection goes exclusively to help new and developing parishes in the Diocese. If you are not contributing to the family offering envelope system or using Standing Order Forms / Direct Debit Mandates, could I please request that you consider helping the parish. Due to increased costs and parish projects, your financial help would be very much appreciated. Standing Order Forms will be available at the doors of the church and Family Envelope Offering boxes for new contributors can be obtained by putting names on sheets provided at the doors.
